Tell us a bit about who lives here?
My name is Pippa. I live here by myself. It’s been about a year now, and I love it.
How did you come to know about Nightingale Wurru wurru biik?
My mum told me about the new Nightingale apartments that were being built. At the time, I was renting close by, but when Mum said, “We want to help you buy a home,” I was excited. I said "sign me up!" and I moved into my new apartment here last July.
I used to live in Geelong but I decided to move back to Melbourne because I wanted to be close to my friends, my boyfriend (who lives in another Nightingale), and my family.
What do you like about your home?
I don't have a favourite part, but I think it is everything. I've loved meeting the neighbours and they've become my best friends. It really feels like a family here. I also love how easy it is to get around. I just walk to the station and catch the train into the city for work. When I am going to and from work, the people in the cafe downstairs always say hello to me and I say hello to them.
Do you feel connected to the community?
Yes! I’ve been to community events on the rooftop, and I’m even hosting my own soon, a CD launch for my music. I've got a big box to sell.
Tell us about your music.
I’ve loved music since I was eight years old, singing in the Clifton Hill Primary School choir. Music and songwriting have always been my entire life. I write my own songs that come into my life when I am feeling down, or to cheer myself up.
I’ve worked with Wild at Heart, a program that supports songwriting and music-making, and I’ve released my own CD. I've got a good producer who helps me make my songs better. Some of my songs are now on Spotify, including an original song I wrote that’s very close to my heart. I'm making a music video. I'm very excited. My message is: keep following your dreams and never give up. You be the star you want to be. I did a hip hop song called Superstar. Being a superstar can be a lot of things like being a leader, being an advocate, being a friend, and having a voice for what you believe in and what matters to you.
What matters to you most?
Community, friends, and family. Caring about each other. That’s what makes me happiest.
What else do you enjoy?
I like to cook. I’ve started a Facebook page called Pippa’s Cooking Adventures where I share photos and recipes, sometimes with little video tutorials. Last Friday I made a chicken noodle salad. I also go to Brunswick Baths for Fit Skills. We do a workout and then go out for dinner with the group, it keeps me fit, healthy, and social. Health is so important. Last time, we went to The Retreat.
I love photography too. I take photos of everything like buildings, food, flowers, and even had a photography exhibition back in Geelong. When I’m at home, I enjoy watching movies and my favourite TV shows, Neighbours and Home & Away.
