Nightingale Wurru-wurru is part of our four-community Wurru wurru biik precinct. In consultation with Wurundjeri Elders, each community has been given a Woi Wurrung name around the theme of the ‘sky’ or ‘wurru-wurru’, one of the six layers of Wurundjeri Country. Nightingale Wurru-wurru is the south western community, facing Albion Street in Brunswick.
Materials and form acknowledge Brunswick’s diverse heritage and industrial past, with arches and frames, brick and concrete interchanged in different combinations to respond to the buildings’ immediate contexts. At the intersection of the four communities is a courtyard that acknowledges the 65,000 years of precolonial history through a connection to the environment. Living greenery will play a key role across all buildings and levels, from ground to rooftop.
We acknowledge the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation, the Traditional Custodians of the land upon which Nightingale Wurru-Wurru stands. We recognise their continuing connection to land, waters and culture.
