Schoolhouse Studios opening new artist studios at Nightingale Wurru wurru biik in Brunswick

Schoolhouse Studios opening new artist studios at Nightingale Wurru wurru biik in Brunswick

We’re delighted to announce that Schoolhouse Studios is bringing new affordable artist studios to Nightingale Wurru wurru biik in Brunswick.

Already a favourite in Coburg, Schoolhouse Studios is expanding to support more local creatives with small-footprint spaces designed for making and collaboration.

The Brunswick fit-out is being built with repurposed materials, pine and saveboard donated by the National Gallery of Victoria after their use in Breathe’s Home Truth exhibition. This creative reuse keeps valuable resources out of landfill while giving them a second life.

We had a sneak peek during construction and can’t wait to see the new Brunswick studios buzzing with artists soon. Watch this space.

Building community at Nightingale Umarkoo Wayi in Coburg

Building community at Nightingale Umarkoo Wayi in Coburg

Future residents of Nightingale Umarkoo Wayi, Nightingale Housing’s latest sustainable housing project in Coburg, gathered recentlyto connect and see the progress of their new homes.

In line with Nightingale’s mission to reduce car dependency and promote low-impact lifestyles, the team from Lug+Carrie brought along a fleet of eBikes for residents to try. The test rides highlighted how eBikes can be a fun, practical and sustainable transport option, especially in a well-connected neighbourhood like Sydney Road, Coburg.

Resident gatherings like this are a cornerstone of the Nightingale approach. They give neighbours the opportunity to meet and form connections while their apartments are still under construction. By the time move-in day arrives, a strong sense of community is already established, creating not just housing but a supportive, connected place to live.

One year of Nightingale Wurru wurru biik

One year of Nightingale Wurru wurru biik

The community at Nightingale Wurru wurru biik recently came together to celebrate one year of living, working and connecting in the building they call home.

The celebration opened with a beautiful performance from Kiera, Hailey, Bella and Azura of Djirri Djirri, followed by a Welcome to Country and smoking ceremony from Uncle John Terrick.

Despite the looming rain, residents, small businesses and project collaborators gathered on the rooftop to share homemade food, connections, and reflect on the layers of sky country that give Wurru wurru biik its name.

Happy anniversary to the Wurru wurru biik community!
