Nightingale 1 is the inaugural project of the Nightingale model. The design strategy was to build more with less, adopting an honest material palette and placing emphasis on reduction. Nightingale 1 is exceptional in its sustainability outcomes. It is the first residential building in the country to be connected under an embedded network that is 100% fossil fuel free.

Nightingale 1 addresses the street with dual shop fronts and a brick podium, while the apartments above present a planted streetwall. Oriented north to south, the apartments are divided in two vertically stacked volumes. At its core, a lush planted courtyard adjoins the stair and lobby, drawing light and ventilation through to the centre of the plan.

We acknowledge the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation, the Traditional Custodians of the land upon which Nightingale 1 stands. We recognise their continuing connection to land, waters, and culture.

Meet a resident

I think it all boils down to wanting to create a home rather than a temporary place to live — having supportive friends and neighbours around you, with like-minded values, contributes enormously to a sense of place, and in turn, your quality of life.
